TACLOBAN CITY, Nov. 30 (PIA) – ‘One Media for Tacloban’, a group of local media personalities in the city who were survivors of Typhoon Yolanda, has joined Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Team Mindanao’s conduct of film showing to the typhoon victims in the different evacuation centers and barangays in the city.

“We want to join the activity because we believe it is timely. At this time of calamity, watching movies is a great way to help provide temporary relief to our problems,” said Community Mass Media (CMM) TV anchor Imelda Magbutay aka Lady Camelot, one of conveners of ‘One Media for Tacloban.’

Magbutay said they will help facilitate the film showing activity from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at the following identified venues: Sunday, Dec. 1 at Pawing, Palo, Leyte; Monday, Dec. 2 at Magallanes, Tacloban City; Tuesday, Dec. 3 at Anibong, Tacloban City; Wednesday, Dec. 4 at San Jose, Tacloban City; Thursday, Dec. 5 at Nula Tula, Tacloban City; Friday, Dec. 6 at V & G Subdivision, Tacloban City; and Saturday, Dec. 7 at downtown, Tacloban City.

Leytenos will experience a free viewing of funny video clips, movies, and educational films on disaster preparedness.

While the film showing is on going, a free charging will also be conducted.

The group will also help PIA in orienting the people on how to use their cellphones as portable radio, which is vital to get information and updates.  (FEA/PIA-Caraga)

TACLOBAN CITY, Nov. 30 (PIA) – The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Team Mindanao’s fm station is now operating 24/7 in this city to help in providing timely, accurate and relevant information to the public.

PIA’s 99.0 MHz Power FM, the newest radio station operating out of portable radio transmitter began its operation last Sunday, Nov. 24. Its studio and transmitter are located at Leyte Sports Complex.

“With barely a week in operation, I am happy to inform the people of Tacloban that Power FM has been operating 24 hours since Friday, Nov. 29 to better serve you with relevant information and good music,” said PIA Mindanao Team Leader and Northern and Northeastern Mindanao cluster head Abner Caga.

Since power is still down in the city, its electricity source comes from a generator set provided by Marcventures Mining and Development Corporation (MMDC), a multi-million mining company based in Surigao del Sur.

“Our programming is getting better because we have partnered with the local media here. These media men were also typhoon victims and their stations were also devastated by the deadly typhoon. As part of our intervention, we allow them to go-onboard but still under the agency’s supervision,” Caga added.

The station is currently manned by personnel of PIA-Caraga and PIA-Eastern Visayas. (FEA/PIA-Caraga)

TACLOBAN CITY, Nov. 28 (PIA) – The local media practitioners of this city who are also victims of typhoon Yolanda are getting support from Team Mindanao.

Northern and Northeastern Mindanao cluster head and PIA-13 regional director Abner Caga has met up with theTacloban media men today for a  short discussion about their present status after the disastrous event.

Upon hearing the plight of the media men, Caga was even more motivated in extending to them a helping hand. “These people have also put their dedication in delivering information to the public. In times like this, any amount of help will be of essence to them. Charity begins at home and so let’s all work together first in the backyard of our media friends,” he said.

Caga distributed to them ten boxes of export quality bananas in which each box is good for ten families, courtesy of Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA). They were very happy and thankful for the concern shown to them.
The team has commited to provide appropriate intervention to lessen the burden of loss and scarcity due to disaster.

In behalf of other PIA directors in Mindanao, Caga told them that the team has accumulated several camping tents which will soon be delivered for them to be used as temporary shelter.

“I encouraged them to feel free to broadcast using PIA’s Power FM regardless of what media outfit they belong. We also wish to give them transistor radios,” Caga added.(VLG/PIA-Caraga)
